AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team opens its fall season Thursday with the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The tournament will be held at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota from Thursday to Sunday.
SAIAÂ DEBUTS FIRST CYCLONE TEAM
Boomer Saia makes his debut as Iowa State head coach this weekend. Saia, the 10th head coach in school history, arrived at Iowa State after his most recent stints at Texas Tech and Vanderbilt where he helped lead them to an Elite Eight and Final Four, respectively.

LOOK WHO'S BACK
Seven players from the 2017-18 roster return to the lineup this year. Those seven players accounted for 95 percent of the Cyclones' singles victories last season.

RECORD BOOK CHECK
Seniors Annabella Bonadonna and Regina Espindola continue the climb up the record book. Bonadonna, a Caracas, Venezuela native, enters her final season ranked fifth in school history in overall career wins (120). Espindola, who hails from Tabasco, Mexico, is 15th in the same category and with her next win will join 14 other Cyclones to reach the 100-win mark.
2018-19 GOPHER INVITATIONAL
The Gopher Invitational will feature both singles and doubles play, with Thursday's matches starting at 5 p.m. and consisting of doubles action. Starting Friday, players will compete in both singles and doubles starting at 9 a.m.
Official brackets will be released later today.
Iowa State will compete against players from: Arkansas, Drake, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Northern Iowa and South Dakota.
