Cyclones Set For Weekend Doubleheader

OMAHA, Neb. – The Iowa State Cyclones (3-3. 1-0 Big 12) begin the second half of their season with back-to-back meets, starting in Omaha against the Mavericks (2-3, 1-0 Summit) with the back-half against Northern Iowa Panthers (8-1, 1-0 MVC) in Ames. The meet in Omaha will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, while the Northern Iowa dual kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Beyer Pool. The Cyclones are fresh off their training trips and look to continue their momentum from a second-place finish at the Kansas Classic and a close Cy-Hawk dual at the end of 2018.
THE OPPONENT – Omaha Mavericks
Both the Cyclones and the Mavericks attended the 2018 Kansas Classic, in which Iowa State finished nearly 400 points ahead of Omaha. Iowa State holds a 16-0 edge over Omaha, which they will look to keep perfect on Friday night. The Cyclones accompanied a pair of sweeps with two relay wins at Beyer Pool last year.
THE OPPONENT – Northern Iowa Panthers
The Cyclones hold a 34-1 advantage over the Panthers, the lone loss coming back in 1992. Iowa State will look to make it 25-straight wins on Saturday. In last year's contest, Iowa State claimed a road win against the in-state rival with a score of 188.5-110.5. Iowa State swept both the breaststroke and distance events in the win.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Diving
The divers had a solid meet against Iowa. Dana Liva and Alex Aaberg set new three-meter PRs in the meet, and Liva also had her best one-meter score of the season. In last year's event, Liva and Sydney Ronald each earned top-two finishes on the springboard. With the training trip under their belts, they will look to take the top spots once again.
ON DECK – Illinois State
Following the meets this weekend, Iowa State returns to Beyer Pool on Jan. 18 with a meet against Illinois State. This is the first meeting between the Cyclones and Redbirds since 2009.
