SEATTLE – Iowa State's track and field distance trio of Dan Curts, Andrew Jordan and Festus Lagat put up three career-defining performances Saturday night at the UW Invitational. The trio each recorded PRs in their events at Dempsey Indoor, all moved up the ISU all-time top-10 lists and the NCAA Division I lists.
In the 3,000-meter run, Jordan (7:51.29, 3rd in NCAA Division I) and Curts (7:55.26, 11th in NCAA Division I) both notched personal bests and moved into ISU's all-time top-five, while Lagat posted his second personal best in the mile in as many weeks, 4:00.83 and is now No. 12 in NCAA Division I this season.
Jordan and Curts laced them up in the 3,000-meter run against an elite field of professionals and other student-athletes from the top distance programs in the country. Jordan ran at this meet last year to establish his then-personal best of 7:56.61, but this year he lopped five seconds off that time en route to taking second place in 7:51.29. The time puts Jordan, the 2018 Big 12 bronze medalist at 3K, at No. 2 in ISU history for the indoor 3,000, just ISU Hall of Famer Raf Wyns ahead of him. At the time of publication, Jordan is No. 3 in NCAA Division I in 2019 for 3,000 meters.
Curts continues to show his versatility across a variety of distances. He was a 2018 Big 12 Indoor silver medalist at 1,000m and the mile, a 2018 Big 12 Outdoor silver medalist at 5,000m and a three-time All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region honoree in cross country. Saturday night's 10th-place finish of 7:55.26 saw him cut 14 seconds off his previous personal best in the indoor 3,000-metrers, move up to No. 4 in ISU history for the event and rank No. 11 in NCAA Division I this season at 3K.
Lagat got his indoor season off to a strong start last week with a third-place 4:01.36 in the mile in Iowa City. His performance tonight in Seattle saw him get another personal best in the mile, finishing eighth overall in 4:00.83. His time also moves him up a spot on ISU's all-time rankings for the event, now at No. 7 in program history. At the time of publication, Lagat ranks No. 12 in NCAA Division I for the season in the mile.
