STANFORD, California – A school record and a pair of victories highlighted Iowa State track and field's Saturday performances at the Cardinal Classic and the War Eagle Invitational. At Stanford, Kelly Naumann re-set her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Roshon Roomes picked up a win in the 400-meter dash. At Auburn, Eric Fogltanz's win in the men's 400-meter hurdles led a strong day by ISU's hurdlers.
Cardinal Classic
Kelly Naumann has broken her own school record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase again. Her latest instance at Stanford on Saturday night saw her chop seven seconds off her previous mark, as she came home in fifth in 10:06.10. Naumann ran with the lead pack for the entirety of the race, as a duo of Furman runners helped create a strong pace to help push the Cyclone senior along. Her previous record also came out in California, as her 10:13.50 was run at last season's NCAA West Preliminaries. At the time of publication, Naumann's time also puts her 10th in NCAA Division I for the season.
In the Cyclones' final run of the weekend, Festus Lagat put a personal best on the board in the men's 1,500-meter invite. Lagat was eighth when the pacer stepped off the track and was still in sixth when he hit the frontstretch. However, Lagat was able to show off his 800m speed by moving out to lane three and getting the clean track he needed to cross the line in second place, posting a mark of 3:44.40.
Roshon Roomes opened up the night with a victory in the men's 400-meter dash, bringing home the victory in 47.82, as he was able to make a pass on Michael Ohioze on the front-stretch for the victory.
War Eagle Invitational
The Cyclone hurdles squad continues to put up strong results again on Saturday. Leading the way was All-American Eric Fogltanz, as he got the win in the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best 50.83. At the time of publication, his mark ranks him No. 12 in NCAA Division I this season. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Logan Schneider came home second in 14.19, with Mason Weh third in 14.22. Weh also added a fourth place finish in the 400 hurdles in 52.41.
The ISU women's hurdlers also performed well. Keira Christie-Galloway led the way again in the 100-meter hurdles, taking second in 13.54. Joining her in the top-five was Kaylyn Hall in 14.04. Hall came back in the 400-meter hurdles to post a season-best 1:02.92 to finish fourth, while Emma Whigham also got a season-best with her fifth-place effort in 1:02.05.
In the field, Chandler Dierks posted one of the best jumps of his career in the long jump, as the Clear Lake native finished fifth at 23-4 3/4 (7.13m). It was his best wind-legal outdoor jump as a Cyclone.
