WHITE SULPHER SPRINGS, W. Va. – The Iowa State men's golf team finished eighth at the Big 12 Championship. The Cyclones carded a final-round 287 for a three-round 856 total.
Top-ranked Oklahoma State won the team title at 827, 11 shots better than runner-up TCU (838).
The Big 12 is arguably the most competitive golf conference from top to bottom with nine teams ranked in the nation's top-50 and five ranked in the top-25.
Junior Tripp Kinney had an outstanding tournament, tying for eighth (70-69-70) at 209. It was his fifth top-10 of the season.
Kinney, who had just two bogeys over his last 36 holes, becomes just the eighth Cyclone to notch a top-10 performance at the Big 12 Championship. Kinney has been at par or below in 25 of his 30 rounds this season.
Junior Sam Vincent tied for 21st after posting a final-round 72 this afternoon. Vincent finished the tournament at 214.
The Cyclones are a lock to make NCAA Regional competition. The NCAA Regional selection night is on Wednesday (May 1).
