2018-19 Iowa State Women's Golf Season Review
-Iowa State ended the year ranked No. 41 nationally by Golfweek and No. 42 in the nation by Golfstat.Â
-The Cyclones earned their school-record 10th-straight NCAA Regional berth (2010-19) by solidifying a spot at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional, finishing 11th out of 18 teams. Â
-Iowa State was the 2019 recipient of the Kim Moore Spirit Award, given annually to a student-athlete or team that went through significant challenges in a season.Â
-Iowa State made the championship match at the East & West Match Play, defeating Oregon State, 3-1-1 in the semifinals. However, Â the Cyclones withdrew from the tournament following the semifinals to mourn the loss of Celia Barquin Arozamena, a former teammate who had her life cut short by a senseless act of violence.
-Iowa State dedicated its season to Barquin Arozamena, who was one of the greatest players in school history. Barquin Arozamena was the 2018 Big 12 champion and the 2017-18 ISU Female Athlete of the Year. --She won the 2018 European Ladies Amateur and qualified for the 2018 U.S. Women's Open.Â
-Iowa State wore "CBA" patches throughout the season in her memory.Â
-The Cyclones were outstanding at the Wildcat Invitational, placing fourth in the competitive field. ISU held the 36-hole lead.Â
-ISU won their first stroke play tournament since 2012 in a victory at the MountainView Collegiate. ISU shattered a pair of records in the win: 18-hole score (268) and 54-hole score (836).Â
-ISU's final-round 268 (-20) included all five players with below par rounds for the first time in school history.Â
-Joy Chou tied for second thanks to a school-record 64 in the final round. Alanna Campbell posted a 66, a round which included nine birdies, to tie for the third-lowest score in the history of the program.Â
-Senior Chayanit Wangmahaporn made the All-Big 12 team in each of her first three seasons and ended the season ranked No. 117 nationally by Golfstat. Â
-Wangmahaporn led the team in stroke average (73.78), birdies (96), top-10 finishes (3) and rounds in the 60s (2). Â Â
-Wangmahaporn, who fired a career-low 67 at the Badger Invite, ended her career with the second-best career stroke average in school history (73.59) and 14 top-10 finishes (tying for 7th in school history).Â
-Junior Amelia Grohn ended the year with top-20 finishes at the Big 12 Championship (T12) and NCAA Cle Elum Regional (T17).Â
-Chou was second on the team in stroke average (74.50) and tied for the team lead in rounds in the 60s. Her 208 at the MountainView Collegiate set the 54-hole school record.Â
