AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field teams head to the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas with its largest contingent in close to a decade. The Cyclones descend on Mike A. Myers Stadium with nine entries, the most since ISU sent nine to the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Competition will take place starting on Wednesday, and going through Saturday. The competition gets rolling Wednesday at 4 p.m. with Vlad Pavlenko in the men's hammer throw. Wednesday night's men's running prelims will see Festus Lagat and Roshon Roomes in the 800-meter run (8:14 p.m.), Eric Fogltanz in the 400-meter hurdles (8:30 p.m.) and the 4x400-meter relay (9:48 p.m.) all running for slots in Friday night's finals.
On Thursday, the Cyclone women take to the track with Keira Christie-Galloway in the 100-meter hurdles (8:02 p.m.) and Erinn Stenman-Fahey in the 800-meter run (8:44 p.m.) taking part in preliminary action. Amanda Vestri will run in the final of the 10,000-meter run that night at 9:38 p.m.
Friday night will see the men re-take the track, with Edwin Kurgat running in the finals of the 5,000-meter run at 9:25 p.m. He will looked to be joined by the guys running in prelims on Wednesday, with the final of the 800-meter run going at 8:44 p.m., 400-meter hurdles at 8:57 p.m. and 4x400-meter relay at 9:51 p.m.
Saturday shifts back to the women. The finals the Cyclones will be looking to make are the 100-meter hurdles final at 6:12 p.m. and the 800-meter run at 6:44 p.m.
The ESPN networks will be providing full coverage of the Championships. Wednesday running events will be on ESPN2 (6:30 p.m.), Thursday will start on ESPNU (7 p.m.) before shifting to ESPN2 (8 p.m.), Friday's events will be on ESPN (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday's competition on ESPN2 (5:30 p.m.).
