AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team has a busy weekend upcoming, hosting four duals against four schools split between Friday and Sunday at Life Time Fitness in Urbandale. On the first day of action, Iowa State will match up against Creighton at noon and follow that up against South Dakota at 5 p.m. Following a day off, the Cyclones will then play against Northern Iowa and Omaha on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
LAST TIME OUT
Iowa State is coming off a close loss to Penn State in last weekend's dual in Manhattan, Kansas. The Cyclones displayed grit on the court, winning at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles slots and taking the other three singles matchups to a decisive third set. Despite the determination, the Cyclones fell 4-3 with Penn State earning the pivotal doubles point.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HIT
Dating back to last season, the team that won the doubles point has went on to win 11 of the last 12 duals.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Maty Cancini has repeatedly proven to be invaluable to the Cyclone program. The senior and de facto leader of the squad has went undefeated in singles action this spring with victories over Penn State's Frederikke Svarre and Missouri's Vivien Abraham. While playing in the No. 2 singles slot, as she did against Penn State, Cancini is undefeated since her first year with the program.
