Cyclones Tie For Fifth In Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Iowa State men's golf team leaped in the standings by carding a final-round 279 (5-under) to tie for fifth at the Arizona Intercollegiate. The Cyclones ended the tournament with a 54-hole 859 total.

No. 11 Arizona won the team title at 831, nine shots better than No. 12 Baylor (840).

Senior All-American Tripp Kinney led the Cyclones by tying for fifth at 209. Kinney made a move in the final round by tying a career low with a 6-under 65 this afternoon. Kinney had eight birdies on his card today, including five in the last six holes.

It was Kinney's third top-10 of the season and 11^th of his career.

Junior Lachlan Barker tied for 13th at 213 with rounds of 69-72-72. Barker got off to a slow start in his final round today, but rallied to go 3-under on his final nine holes. He eagled the 527-yard, par-4 sixth by holing out from 144 yards with a pitching wedge.

Ricky Costello tied for 31st at 218, carding 72 and 70 in his final two rounds.

The Cyclones are back in action at the Prestige at PGA West, Feb. 17-19 in LaQuinta, Calif.
