AMES, Iowa – The nation's best once again descend on Ames as Iowa State hosts the 2020 Iowa State Classic at the Harry Hoak Track inside the Lied Recreation Center. Competition will take place on Friday and Saturday, starting at noon on both days. Admission to the meet is free.

The No. 8 Iowa State men have already done a lot of their work during the past two months to earn their lofty ranking. In the men's 800-meter run, Daniel Nixon will look to lower his current NCAA Championships qualifying mark of 1:48.29, which was run at Texas Tech two weeks ago. Heading into the weekend, Nixon is No. 9 in NCAA Division I at 800m, and will be joined by Festus Lagat in the fast section of the 800 meters.
With NCAA Championships qualification secure at 3,000 and 5,000 meters, Edwin Kurgat will give his shot at the mile this weekend. A sub-4 minute effort is possible, as Kurgat went sub-4 on his 1,600m DMR anchor at the Indiana Relays two weeks ago. Pacing the fast section of the men's mile will be former ISU national champ Edward Kemboi.
For the Cyclone women, Cailie Logue comes into the weekend at No. 9 nationally in the 5,000 meters and will look to drop a little more time on Friday night. She will have strong competition in the form of Virginia Tech's Sara Freix and Michigan's Erika Vanderlende, both of whom were under 9:20 at 3,000m last weekend. In the women's mile, Larkin Chapman will look to continue her strong indoor season in the fast section.
USATF Indoor Championships
While the Cyclones take their home track, a pair of unattached student-athletes are in Albuquerque, New Mexico readying for the 2020 Toyota USATF Indoor Championships this weekend. Eric Fogltanz and Vlad Pavlenko have both exhausted their indoor eligibility, but while they wait for the outdoor season to begin next month, they will be testing themselves against the nation's best inside the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Pavlenko will take part in the weight throw at 6:30 p.m. Central Time on Friday, while Fogltanz will run in the Xfinity Men's 400-meter dash First Round on Friday at 8:59 p.m. Central. Fogltanz will be running to advance to Saturday's final at 3:05 p.m. Central. Coverage will be on NBCSN on Friday and NBC on Saturday, with live results provided by Flash Results, here.
