MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (5-5, 0-2 Big 12) ends day one action tied with West Virginia in fourth with 58 points. The day was marked with two season-best times and a broken personal record.
The 200 medley relay kicked off the 2020 Big 12 Championship finals. The squad of Emily Haan, Martha Haas, Wyli Erlechman and Anna Andersen notched a fourth-place win and the fourth-best Iowa State performance with their time of 1:40.52. A mere .69 seconds separated the finish from the school record set in last year's championship.
The 800 free relay team of Keely Soellner, Emma Ruehle, Lucia Rizzo and Nolwenn Nunes took fifth with 7:24.82. The team shaved 3.47 seconds off their previous season-best time and moved into eighth all-time. Last year's 800 free relay team posted the second-fastest Iowa State time.
Kennedy Tranel recorded a new personal best in the 100 free time trials this morning touching at 52.09. The time broke her previous record of 52.33 that stood for five years.
The Cyclones kick off day two of the Big 12 Championship with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Events taking place tomorrow include the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, one-meter diving and the 400 medley relay.
