AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team will get back in action this weekend, traveling to Tuscaloosa to take on the unbeaten Alabama Crimson Tide (6-0). The match is set to begin at noon on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cyclones were idle last weekend but had many successes Jan. 24-26 in their last action, sweeping a pair of double headers. Iowa State rolled to wins over Creighton, South Dakota, and Northern Iowa before shutting down Omaha in a full match, 7-0. The successful weekend moved Iowa State to 4-1 on the spring season.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HIT
Three Cyclones will be making their return to Tuscaloosa. Thasaporn Naklo, Chie Kezuka, and Karen Alvarez all competed in the Roberta Alison Classic in early November, highlighted by Naklo upsetting No. 41 Emma Antonaki of Mississippi State in straight sets. Naklo is 4-3 against ranked foes this season.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Naklo went a combined 8-0 when the Cyclones last played to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors. She is the fourth Cyclone and the first freshman to receive the award in the program's history. Naklo will look to continue her torrid spring season where she is undefeated in singles and has just one blemish on her doubles record with partner Christin Hsieh. Naklo and Hsieh could face a ranked pair in Moka Ito and Isabella Harvison at No. 1 doubles. Ito and Harvison were tied for No. 51 nationally at the time of the last ITA rankings release.
