How It Happened
No. 3 Mackall took on Air Force's Cody Phippen in the 125-pound semifinals. Mackall jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the first with two takedowns. He added a third takedown in short time of the second period and went on to defeat the Falcon by 7-3 decision.
At 141 pounds. No. 2 Parker was dominant in a 4-0 victory over UNI's No. 3 Michael Blockhus. Parker used a first-period takedown and some great work on top to notch his second victory of the season over Blockhus to advance to the finals.
In his first action since returning from a knee injury, No. 1 Carr hasn't skipped a beat in his time off the mat. Carr took Thomas down in the second period and that proved to be the difference in the contest as Carr won it by 4-1 decision.
In a rematch of the Sothern Scuffle Finals, No. 2 Gremmel rolled through Northern Colorado's No. 6 Dalton Robertson. Gremmel racked up four takedowns in the match and pushed past Robertson by 10-2 decision.
Degen, Straw, Colbray and Coleman all reached the semifinals in their brackets, but all came up short on Saturday night.
A Note At 133 Pounds
At 133 pounds, they will wrestle the tournament out to ninth place in case there is a situation where a true eighth-place finisher needs to be determined. Todd Small defeated Air Force's Jordan Van Vleet by 11-3 major decision to advance to the ninth-place match tomorrow morning.
