IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference named Iowa State senior Emma Ruehle as the 2020 Big 12 Women's Swimming Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She becomes the second Cyclone in school history to achieve the award.
Ruehle is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team recipient, member of the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie team and recipient of the 2019 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award. Earning a 3.98 GPA as she earns her degree in kinesiology, Ruehle also serves as an executive board member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Ruehle has also achieved numerous accolades throughout her swimming career, including ranking in the top-20 all-time in the 200 free, 100 back, 200 back and the 200 IM. Ruehle also notched over 60 top-5 victories as an Iowa State swimmer.
"Congratulations goes out to senior Emma Ruehle for being voted Co-Scholar-Athlete of the year by the Big 12 head coaches," said head coach Duane Sorenson. "Since the first day she stepped onto campus to her graduation this spring, she has always been an exceptional student earning a perfect 4.0 GPA six out of the last seven semesters. She did this while being a team leader, a member of the executive board of SAAC these last two years, always scoring points for the team in both dual and championship meets and capping it off by helping her teammates set a school record in the 400 freestyle relay."
