AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team concluded play at the ITA All-American Championships and went 4-0 in opening day action at the June Stewart Invitational on Friday.
At the ITA All-American Championships, the Cyclones' No. 59 pairing of Miska Kadleckova and Thasaporn Naklo fell to No. 27 Jaeda Daniel and Alana Smith of North Carolina State, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
The Cyclone pair finished the tournament 2-1 with a pair of ranked victories.
ISU had a strong first-day showing in Nashville, finishing with a 4-0 record.
Chie Kezuka and Christin Hsieh beat Vanderbilt's Dasha Kourkina and Amy Stevens, 6-4.
Singles action was highlighted by Sofia Cabezas' three-set victory over Carla Girbau of Kentucky. Cabezas took the match by a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
Kezuka was also victorious, defeating Lipscomb's Kate Popova, 6-1, 6-0. Hsieh won over MaryAnn Rompf when she was leading 3-2 and the Vanderbilt player retired from the match.
Action at the June Stewart Invitational resumes Saturday morning.
