AUSTIN, Texas – The Iowa State swimming and diving team (2-1, 0-1 Big 12) ends the sixth day of the Big 12 Championship in third with 495 points. Michelle Schlossmacher Smith earned a slot in the finals for the second-consecutive night.
Schlossmacher Smith competed on the one-meter after a commanding performance in prelims to earn her second-career medal, both earned in this year's championship. Schlossmacher Smith dove to a 264.45 to take the seventh spot in finals.
The junior kept control on the springboard as she competed in finals, going on to place eighth. Schlossmacher Smith posted an overall score of 265.70 with an average round score of 44.28. The finish cements her 11th Zone qualifying score of the season, with four coming from the one-meter.
The diver has now accumulated 24 Zone cuts through her two years competing as a Cyclone.
Three divers aided in point accumulation in consolation finals. Sophomore Jayna Misra grabbed 13th overall with a score of 250.40. Freshman Joscelyn Buss (14th, 224.40) and junior Jessica Coffin (16th, 171.85) followed Misra.
"Michelle did a good job today and was very consistent," diving coach Jeff Warrick said. "Making finals two days in a row is a testament to all of the hard work she has put in this season. Tomorrow holds more opportunity for our divers on platform, and I look forward to watching Michelle, Jessica and Joscelyn perform."
The Big 12 Championship concludes tomorrow with platform diving.
