TULSA, Okla. – After day one of the 2021 Big 12 Championship, No. 13 Iowa State (9-3, 4-1 Big 12) holds the fourth position in a tight team race with 94 team points. No. 19 Oklahoma currently sits atop the team standings with 107 points.
The Cyclones brought three wrestlers to Tulsa that were seeded No. 1 in their brackets. No. 1 Ian Parker, No. 1 David Carr and No. 1 Gannon Gremmel all advanced to the Big 12 finals at their respective weights.
In addition to making the conference finals, Parker, Carr and Gremmel have all punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships.
On the backside, No. 7 Kysen Terukina, No. 7 Zach Redding, No. 5 Jarrett Degen, No. 5 Sam Colbray and No. 6 Marcus Coleman are all battling back for third place.

Session II: Semifinals Recap
Iowa State saw four wrestlers reach the semifinals in Redding, Parker, Carr and Gremmel.
Parker cruised to the Big 12 finals behind a 6-2 victory over No. 4 DJ Lloren of Fresno State. Parker used two takedowns, an escape and three minutes of riding time to push past his Bulldog opponent. The St. Johns, Mich., native will get a familiar foe tomorrow night, squaring off with OU's No. 2 Dom Demas in the finals.
Carr reached the finals for the second-straight season with a commanding 8-2 win against No. 4 Cade DeVos of South Dakota State. Carr scored on three takedowns, an escape and racked up 4:31 of riding time to take out DeVos. He'll get NDSU's No. 3 Jared Franek in the finals tomorrow.
Gremmel secured his spot in the Big 12 finals by defeating Oklahoma's No. 4 Josh Heindselman in sudden victory. After seven minutes of wrestling, the two heavyweights were tied at 1-1. Gremmel toppled Hendselman in the overtime-period to win the match by 3-1 decision. The Big 12 final at 285 pounds will also be a rematch from 2020, with Gremmel taking on Wyoming's No. 3 Brian Andrews.
Session II: Consolation Recap
In 14 matches during the second session, Iowa State compiled an 11-3 mark as a team with two pins and a major.
Both pins came from Coleman at 197 pounds, which gave him three on the day. He locked up the fall over UNI's Keegan Moore in 4:30, and followed that up with a pin in 5:26 over NDSU's No. 7 Owen Pentz.
At 184 pounds, Colbray secured a major decision for the Cyclones to close out the session. He beat SDSU's Jacob Schoon by 14-5 major decision behind a six-takedown performance. He bounced back after a quarterfinal loss and beat Michael Nelson of NDSU by 10-6 decision.
Degen also fell in the quarters, but scrapped on the backside to reach the consi-semis. He beat Air Forces No. 6 Dylan Martinez by 6-2 decision and finished the day on a 1-0 victory over Utah Valley's No. 7 Cameron Hunsacker.
Terukina fell in sudden victory in the quarterfinals, but picked up two wins in session II to stay alive. He beat Derrick Stacey by 4-2 decision and then No. 6 Cody Phippen by 9-6 decision in the consolation quarterfinals.
Session I Recap
In the first and quarterfinal rounds, Iowa State went 7-6 as a team, securing bonus-points in four of their seven wins. Advancing to the semifinals for the Cyclones were Redding, Parker, Carr and Gremmel.
After receiving byes into the quarterfinals, Redding and Parker both majored their way into the semis. Redding defeated UNI's Jack Skudlarczyk by 13-0 major decision, while Parker racked up nearly five minutes of riding time in a 13-1 rout over No. 8 Chase Zollman of Wyoming.
Carr wasted little time in his opening match. He had a bye into the quarterfinals and pinned No. 8 Parker Simmington of Air Force in 0:46. It was the sixth-fastest pin in Big 12 Championship history and the second-fastest by a Cyclone.
Gremmel picked up a pair of 6-2 decisions over his session I opponents. In the first round, he defeated Chase Trussell of Utah Valley and then parlayed that into a quarterfinal-win over No. 8 Blake Wolters of SDSU.
No. 6 Marcus Coleman secured bonus points for the Cardinal and Gold in his first round matchup with Fresno State's Nick Villarreal. He pinned the Bulldog in 4:20. In the quarterfinals, Coleman dropped a 3-2 decision to West Virginia's No. 3 Noah Adams.
At 184 pounds, Colbray gritted out a 3-1 victory over Jake Thompason (Air Force) in sudden victory. He had another close match in the quarterfinals, but came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 decision against Northern Colorado's No. 4 Alan Clothier.
