AMES, Iowa -Â The Iowa State soccer team will play in the state of Iowa for the first time this season on Thursday, as the Cyclones travel to Iowa City to face the Hawkeyes in the first Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series event of the season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Hawkeye Soccer Complex. The match will be broadcast nationally on Big Ten Network.
KEY STORYLINES
-Iowa State faces Iowa for the first time since Aug. 29, 2019 on Thursday. The two teams did not face each other last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
-The Cyclones and Hawkeyes will meet in the same location for back-to-back meetings for the first time since the 2002 and 2004 matchups were played in Ames.Â
-Iowa State enters the match with a 1-1 record after a win over UC Santa Barbara and a loss to CSUN on opening weekend.
-The Hawkeyes are 2-0 on the year after road wins against DePaul and #21 Saint Louis over the weekend.
-Both teams feature the reigning Big 12 and Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Iowa State's Lauren McConnell earned the award with a goal and an assist last week, while Iowa's Kenzie Roling earned it after scoring a goal in each of Iowa's first two matches.
-Under Matt Fannon, Iowa State is 4-1-1 when scoring the first goal of the match. The Cyclones scored first in the victory over UC Santa Barbara to open the season.
-Brooke Miller appeared in her 40th career match on Sunday against CSUN. Miller joins teammates Taylor Bee, Tavin Hays and McKenna Schultz as players with over 40 career appearances.
-The Cyclones dropped their first match of the year on Sunday, as CSUN scored in each half to defeat Iowa State 2-1.
-Cora Anderson, Taylor Bee and Mira Emma played all 90 minutes in the loss to the Matadors. Bee and Anderson played all 180 minutes over the weekend.
-Mira Emma scored her first goal of the season against CSUN. It was her sixth career goal, the most by any current Cyclone.
