AMES, Iowa -Â The Iowa State soccer team hosts Drake on Sunday in the home opener at the Cyclone Soccer Complex. The two teams are facing each other for the first time since 2016. The match will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
KEY STORYLINES
-Iowa State will face back-to-back in-state foes for the first time since the 2012 season when the Cyclones played Iowa (8/31) and Northern Iowa (9/4) in back-to-back matches.Â
-The Cyclones dropped a 2-1 match at Iowa on Thursday night. The Hawkeyes led 2-0 before the Cyclones added a goal from freshman Magdalena Keck in the 72nd minute.
-Four different players have scored a goal this year for the Cyclones. Three of the four goals have come from freshmen.
-Both teams feature a weekly conference award winner. Iowa State's Lauren McConnell was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Wee with a goal and an assist last week, while Drake senior goalkeeper Kelsie Stone was named the Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Week after recording 19 saves in two matches to start the season.
-With an assist Thursday night against Iowa, Mira Emma now has four on her career. Emma and Claudia Najera lead the Cyclones with four career assists apiece.
-With Keck's goal against Iowa on Thursday, eight different Cyclones have now scored a goal in their career.|
-Taylor Bee made her 40th start for the Cyclones Thursday night at Iowa. Bee and McKenna Schultz (58) are the only two Cyclones with more than 28 career starts on the roster.
-Junior Jordan Silkowitz recorded a career-high 11 saves in the loss at Iowa. Her 11 saves are the most in the Big 12 this season.
-The Cyclones dropped their first match of the year on Sunday, as CSUN scored in each half to defeat Iowa State 2-1.
-Cora Anderson, Bee and Emma played all 90 minutes in the loss to the Matadors. Bee and Anderson played all 180 minutes over the weekend.
-Emma scored her first goal of the season against CSUN. It was her sixth career goal, the most by any current Cyclone.
