AMES, Iowa – After a second-place finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate where the Cyclones knocked off 10 Top-50 teams, the Iowa State women's golf team earned their first top-25 ranking of the season according to Golfstat and were ranked No. 27 by Golfweek.
With two seventh place finishes and two top-five placements, the Cyclones have been in contention in each tournament this season. During the Schooner Fall Classic, the squad broke the program's lowest 18-hole team score with a 266 in the final round.
According to Golfweek, the Cyclones ended the fall season with seven wins against Top-25 teams and 23 wins over Top-50 teams. The team's overall record was 42-17-2 with a 5-5 record against the Big 12 Conference.
Freshman Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn played a large role in the Cyclones fall success. With a second-place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic and a fourth-place finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate, Chul-Ak-Sorn is now one of four freshman ranked inside the Top-25.
During the final round of the Schooner Fall Classic, Chul-Ak-Sorn broke the Iowa State rookie scoring mark and tied the program's lowest 18-hole round with a six-under round of 64. She went on to post a 201 tally which set the lowest 54-hole round in school history.
Taglao Jeeravivitaporn was ranked No. 137 according to Golfstat. The team's senior-leader placed inside the Top-25 in two of her four tournaments. Jeeravivitaporn carded a season-low 67 during the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Coming in at No. 187 in Golfstat's rankings is Liyana Durisic. During the Schooner Fall Classic, Durisic tied the program's second-lowest 18-hole score with a 65 in the final round. Durisic placed inside the Top-45 in each tournament and totaled a 73.08 season stroke average.
Pammy Chookaew rounded out the four ranked Cyclones, earning the No. 227 spot according to Golfstat. Chookaew carded her season-low 18-hole score at the Schooner Fall Classic where she fired a 69 and finished the fall season with a 73.50 stroke average. Â
The Cyclones will begin the spring portion of the season starting February 5th at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
