MADISON, Wis. – The Iowa State divers conclude their 2021-22 campaign after three days of competition at the NCAA Zone 'D' Diving Championships. Three Cyclones dove amongst top divers in the nation throughout the one-meter, three-meter and platform.
Michelle Schlossmacher Smith dove to the top Cyclone one-meter score in the first day of action to close out her record-book amending senior season. The Roseville, Minn. native's score of 242.45 cemented 29th place in a field of 48 divers. Her top dive nearly cleared 50 with 49.20 to place her tenth after the first round.
"Michelle had a great season and her injury at the meet this week didn't allow her to finish the last two days of competition," Diving Coach Jeff Warrick said. "It's not the way we hoped it would go for her, but she can be proud of what she accomplished this year."
Jayna Misra scored 215.30 on the one-meter for 42nd place while Joscelyn Buss totaled 201.60 for 45th.
In the second day of competition, Misra and Buss dove for Iowa State. Misra finished 34th with 243.95 and Buss sealed 39th with 236.70. Misra's forward 2.5 somersault pike dive was her highest in the event, scoring 45.60. Buss' top dive came in the fourth round with a back 2.5 somersault tuck to score 44.80.
Buss rounded out Zones with her platform performance of 197.25 for 23rd, missing finals by a score of 15.05.
"Jayna and Joscelyn both had a good experience at Zones," Warrick said. "We will analyze everything when we get back to campus and will build upon what we have learned."
