THE SERIES
The Cyclones and Mountaineers will be facing off for the second time this week on Thursday, as Iowa State downed West Virginia at home, 6-1, on Sunday to close out the regular season. The Cyclones have dominated the Mountaineers throughout series history, winning nine of 10 matches. On Sunday, Iowa State hadn't dropped a single set in singles or doubles play until Sofia Cabezas was forced to retire from her No. 6 singles match due to injury, giving West Virginia its lone point.
BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIP
Iowa State will be seeking its second-ever win at the Big 12 Championship. Last year, the Cyclones beat Texas Tech, 4-1, for the program's first victory at the annual postseason tournament.
At last year's Big 12 Championship, Iowa State debuted a new doubles lineup featuring Thasaporn Naklo & Christin Hsieh at the No. 1 slot and Miska Kadleckova & Sofia Cabezas at the No. 2. Both pairings won, helping the Cyclones secure the historic win over the Red Raiders. Since then, Iowa State has stuck with that lineup, with both pairings playing together in every dual match this season. Chie Kezuka and Cabezas also took singles victories in last season's tournament.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Anna Supapitch Kuearum had an impressive regular season in her first year as a Cyclone. She went 13-7 overall while doing most of her work in singles action. Kuearum won 11 matches on the solo courts, with eight of her victories coming in straight sets.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HIT
This year, Iowa State's 15 wins are the most for the Cyclones since the 2016-17 season, when they also had 15 victories. Iowa State hasn't had more than 15 wins since 1986-87 (18).
