NORTHFIELD, Ill. – Iowa State senior All-American Taglao Jeeravivitaporn won the Western Women's Amateur Golf Championship Saturday afternoon at Sunset Ridge Country Club.
Jeeravivitaporn battled a field of 120 golfers over five days, with the first two rounds being stroke play followed by a match play tournament. Jeeravivitaporn shot a 71 in the first round and a 72 in the second round, as she entered match play as the number three seed, finishing five strokes out of the lead.
In the opening round of match play, Jeeravivitaporn defeated No. 30 Sarah Arnold 2 & 1 to advance to the round of 16. No. 14 Maddison Hinson-Tolchard led Jeeravivitaporn by two holes after 12 holes, but Jeeravivitaporn bounced back to force a playoff and won in 19 holes. In the quarterfinals, Jeeravivitaporn defeated No. 22 Grace Curran 2 & 1, as Jeeravivitaporn won three of the last five holes to win after 17 holes.
The top two remaining seeds met in the semifinals, as Jeeravivitaporn faced No. 2 Rianne Mikhaela Malixi. Trailing by a hole, Jeeravivitaporn won the 17th hole to force a playoff before eventually winning in 20 holes.
In Saturday's championship match, Jeeravivitaporn faced Clemson's No. 32 Annabelle Pancake. After six holes, Pancake led by three holes, while holding a two-hole lead into the 11th hole. Jeeravivitaporn won four of the final seven holes to lock up the victory in 17 holes.
