FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Iowa State wrapped up the first day of the Razorback Invitational after putting up numerous personal bests in multi-events and strong performances in the shot put and sprints.
In the pentathlon, freshman Kailynn Gubbels improved her all-time ISU standing to tie the sixth-ranking score with a personal best of 3,577 points to place 11th after the five events. Fellow freshman Ava Cinnamo narrowly missed her PR by 13 points, placing 15th with 3,476. Kiersten Fisher rounded out the Cyclones with 3,252 points for a 16th-place finish.
Gubbels (5-3 3/4, 1.62m) and Cinnamo (4-11, 1.50m) both broke their high jump personal records as they placed 13th and 20th, respectively. Cinnamo went out to two additional personal records in the shot put with a throw of 28-10 1/2 (8.80m) and in the long jump with 18-8 1/2 (5.70m). Fisher also earned herself a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.98 for 15th.
Thai Thompson opened the Razorback Invitational with the heptathlon 60-meter dash, sprinting to match his season best of 7.08 for eighth place. Thompson also notched an eighth-place finish in the next event, with a jump of 22-9 1/4 (6.94m) in the long jump.
After the first day, Thompson sits in 13th place with 2,797 points. Heptathlon events still to come tomorrow include the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000-meter run.
In the men's shot put, Kevin Sakson posted a fifth-place throw of 59-4 1/4 (18.09m) while Blake Veenstra threw a personal best of 57-11 (17.65m) good for eighth.
On the women's side, freshman Jadan Brumbaugh notched 10th with 48-1 1/4 (14.66m) while Rebecca Manteuffel claimed 14th with 44-9 1/2 (13.60m).

Iowa State continues competition at the Razorback Invitational tomorrow with running events at 9:10 a.m., heptathlon events at 10:15 a.m. and field events at noon. Competition will be streamed on SEC Network+ beginning with running events at 11 a.m.
