AMES, Iowa – Four members of the Iowa State swimming and diving team have been named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Women's Swimming & Diving Academic All-District Team, announced on Tuesday. The Cyclones are represented by Joscelyn Buss, Winter Craig, Brinley Horras and Keely Tierney.
This is the first year that swimming and diving has had separate Academic All-District and All-America honors from CSC, with the sport formerly part of the 'at-large' pool. All four advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with the CSC Academic All-America honorees being announced on Monday, March 20.
Buss, a junior from Ames, was Iowa State's leader in the diving well in 2022-23, earning All-Big 12 Second Team on 1-meter and 3-meter after finishing eighth in each at last week's Big 12 Championships. Buss recorded career-best scores of 315.15 on 3-meter (good for fifth in school history) and 292.30 on 1-meter (ranking 10th in Iowa State history) during the season. She will lead the Iowa State diving contingent to the NCAA Zone Diving Championships next week at Minnesota. Buss maintains a 3.94 cumulative GPA and is an Elementary Education major.
Craig, a redshirt sophomore from Lakeville, Minnesota, picked up All-Big 12 Second Team honors in the 200 butterfly at last weekend's Big 12 Championships. Her prelims time of 2:00.91 moved her up to second in Iowa State history for the event. Craig also scored for the Cyclones in the 100 fly, taking 14th in 55.18 to move into ISU's all-time top-10 for the event. A Psychology major, Craig has maintained a 3.98 cumulative GPA.
Horras, a junior from Ames, was an important contributor to the Cyclones' second place team finish, as she individually claimed a pair of All-Big 12 Second Team honors by finishing fifth in the 1650 free and seventh in the 500 free. In the 1650 free, Horras' time of 16:44.99 moved her up to fourth in Iowa State history for the event. She also put up a 1:49.83 split in the 800 free relay to help lead the Cyclones to a bronze-medal finish in the event, while the squad's 7:15.87 time is second in Iowa State history. A Kinesiology and Health major, Horras has maintained a 3.85 cumulative GPA.
Tierney, a senior from Eagan, Minnesota, finished her season finishing 26th in the 200 free in 1:57.56, 27th in 5:05.09 in the 500 free and 16th in the 1650 free in 17:35.91. Tierney was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2021-22. She is a Dietetics major who maintains a 3.99 cumulative GPA.
Swimming and diving teams are permitted a maximum of four CSC Academic All-District honorees. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore who has maintained a 3.50 cumulative GPA and has competed in at least 50 percent of a team's competitions.
