URBANDALE, Iowa – No. 10 Iowa State (11-2, 1-0 Big 12) picked up its first conference victory of the year in dominant fashion with a 6-1 win over No. 13 Kansas (9-2, 0-1 Big 12) Friday afternoon at Life Time Fitness.
Miska Kadleckova earned the 25th win of her career at the No. 3 singles position, setting a new school record.
This marks ISU's first 1-0 start in Big 12 play since 2019-20 and the Cyclones' second such start under head coach Boomer Saia.
How it Happened
The Cyclones started fast in doubles action by securing wins at No. 2 and No. 3, making Iowa State 10-0 when winning the doubles point.
Thasaporn Naklo and Anna Supapitch Kuearum fell, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot before Xinyi Nong and Ange Oby Kajuru handled business in the No. 2 slot with a 6-1 victory. Sofia Cabezas and Kadleckova clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Jocelyn Massey and Roxana Manu in the No. 3 spot.
The Cyclones are a combined 17-3 in the No. 2 and 3 doubles spots this season.
Kajuru made quick work of Maria Titova in the No. 2 singles spot, picking up her first clean sheet of the year, 6-0, 6-0. She improves to 11-1 on the season.
Cabezas looked strong in the No. 5 singles slot, recording a 6-3, 6-0 win over Tamari Gagoshidze.
Kadleckova's record-breaking win clinched the match for the Cyclones. She defeated Manu, 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 3 slot and improved to 13-0 dual singles action.
The remaining singles matches were played to completion. Chie Kezuka won at the No. 6 possession, 6-3, 6-4, over Mariana Velasquez.
Iowa State's only loss of the day came at the No. 4 spot, where Heike Van Vuuren outlasted Supapitch Kuearum in the third-set tiebreakers, 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 (7).
Thasaporn Naklo closed the dual out with a 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (4) victory over Malika Ngounoue in the No. 1 slot.
