DALLAS, Tex. – The Iowa State women's golf team finished round one of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in sixth place. The Cyclones posted a 10-over 298 and are seven shots behind Texas Tech.
Pammy Chookaew holds a four-shot lead over the field after round one. The freshman carded the lowest conference 18-hole round in program history after firing a five-under 67. Chookaew knocked in eight birdies with five on her back nine.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn finished second on the team in scoring after carding a two-over round of 74. The freshman ended the day with a two-under back nine and will head into the second round in a tie for 11th place.
Taglao Jeeravivitaporn placed in a tie for 28th after posting a five-over round of 77. The senior made two birdies and concluded day one with a one-over 37 on her final nine holes.
Ruby Chou and Liyana Durisic rounded out the team's top five. Chou finished in 39th place, and Durisic will head into round two in 44th.
The Cyclonitas are set to tee off at 9:00 a.m. CT on Saturday, Apr. 22, for the second round of the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship.
