NORMAN, Okla. – Iowa State nailed down a Big 12 title, a school record and a total of eight podium finishes in the first day of Big 12 Outdoor Championships. In the team standings, the women hold the top spot with 32 points and the men stand in third with 17.
Cailie Logue took hold of her 12th Big 12 title, the most individual titles in ISU history, with her victory in the 10,000-meter run to start off the Championships. Logue, Dana Feyen and Oklahoma State's Molley Born led the pack throughout the 25 laps before Logue surged ahead in the final lap to post a time of 34:28.86 for her third Big 12 victory in the event.

Dana Feyen finished next to provide for a one-two ISU finish with a time of 34:35.65 to lock down her second-career silver medal. Madelynn Hill claimed fourth place with 35:12.65, her highest finish at Big 12 Championships as she raced in the 10K for the first time of her career. The trio locked up 23 team points with their dominant finishes. Brenna Cohoon just missed out on adding to the point total with her ninth-place finish of 35:54.42.
Zach Podraza claimed the Cyclones' second silver medal of the day with his javelin finish of 217-6 (66.29m). Podraza hit the mark on his fourth throw to solidify eight team points while coming near his No. 3-ranking PR of 223-10.
Kaitlyn Burson marked the day with taking down a 10-year-old school record in the hammer throw. Her mark of 209-8 (63.91m) topped the previous record of 207-8 to cement the bronze medal. Emily March also threw a lifetime-best 191-11 (58.50m) to place sixth and match the ninth-best throw in school history.
On the men's side of the 10K, both Cyclones recorded their highest finish at Big 12 Championships. Timothy Sindt secured fourth with 30:08.65 and Titus Winders fifth with 30:17.91 as the duo put Iowa State on the board with nine points.
Multi-event athletes began the decathlon and heptathlon Friday. Thai Thompson started out with an all-conditions PR of 10.73 (4.6 m/s) for third in the 100m dash and followed that performance up with a lifetime-best 23-10 3/4 (7.28m) in the long jump, finishing second. Thompson also notched two more PRs, including in the 400m dash with a second-place finish of 48.37. With the clocking, Thompson moved up a spot in the standings to sit in fourth after five events with 3,964 points.
Jack Vetsch hit an outdoor PR in the shot put with 42-10 3/4 (13.07m) for third. Vetsch stands in ninth with 3,631 points with 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault javelin and 1,500m run still to go tomorrow.
In the heptathlon, Willits recorded herself three PRs through four events to sit in third place after day one with 3,373 points. Willits had a major personal best time drop in 100m hurdles, clocking a wind-legal 13.93 for second while coming .07 seconds off the 10th-fastest time in ISU history. In the final event of the day, Willits notched an all-time program time as she tied the seventh-fastest 200m time of 24.19. Willits won the event and moved up two spots in the overall standings with the time.
Kiersten Fisher once again set a hurdle PR with 14.00 for third while Kailynn Gubbels set an all-conditions PR of 14.50(w) for eighth. In the overall standings, Fisher stands in 12th with 3,018 points and Gubbels in 13th with 2,929.
The Big 12 Championships continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. with multi-events.
