IRVING, Texas – The honors keep rolling in for standout freshman Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn. On Thursday, the rookie was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, while also earning a spot on the All-Big 12 Team.
Chul-Ak-Sorn is the first Cyclone to be named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year. The All-Big 12 Women's Golf Team was formulated by an average of the season's final Golfstat and Golfweek rankings following the NCAA Championships. The 10 golfers with the highest average of rankings were selected.
Last week, Chul-Ak-Sorn was named a WGCA First Team All-American, becoming the third All-American in program history and the only first team selection in program history.
Chul-Ak-Sorn, the WGCA National Freshman of the Year, turned in one of the best seasons in school history. Her 70.56 stroke average is the best in school history, topping teammate Taglao Jeeravivitaporn's 72.11 from last season. Chul-Ak-Sorn is currently ranked No. 14 by GolfStat and No. 11 by Golfweek.
In 10 events this season, Chul-Ak-Sorn finished with six top-five finishes. She finished fifth at the Big 12 Championship, while she won the Mountain View Intercollegiate in record-setting fashion. Her 191 over 54-holes tied the NCAA record at 25-under par. Her 62 in the second round was the lowest score in Iowa State history and just the 12th round in NCAA women's golf history of 61 or 62.
Chul-Ak-Sorn is slated to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup, scheduled for June 8-10 at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa.
