Cyclones Finish Play At The Duel In The Desert

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Juliette Nask both grabbed singles wins as the Iowa State tennis team concluded play at the Duel in the Desert.

On day three of the Duel in the Desert, the Cyclones matched up against players from Clemson in a hidden dual format. In doubles action, Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Isabella Dunlap went up against Clemson's Jenna Thompson and Elene Louka in a hard-fought match before falling, 6-4. Juliette Nask and Ashlee Narker took on Cris Mayorova and Leigh Van Zyl, falling 6-2, while Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Gala Arangio fell to Sophia Hatton and Alina Tsyurpalevych, 6-4.

In singles action, Kuearum scored a singles win over Tsurpalevych in convincing fashion, taking her down, 6-0, 6-2. Nask notched her second singles win of the tournament by taking down Louka, 6-4, 6-4. Finally, Narker grabbed her second collegiate singles win against Mayorova, grinding out a victory, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (8).

In other singles action, Dunlap went up against Clemson's Jenna Thompson, where she would fall, 6-3, 6-1. Arangio took on Sophia Hatton, battling in two sets before dropping the match, 6-1, 6-4. Caroline Nicholls went up against Leigh Van Zyl in two closely contested sets, falling 6-4, 6-4. Lastly, Valeska San Martin Ramirez would face off against Alex Anttila, dropping two sets to her, 6-2, 6-4.

This marked the final day of competition at the Duel in the Desert. The Cyclones will return to action next week, Saturday, Jan. 20 at home against South Dakota and Missouri State at 10 a.m and 2 p.m CT.
