Leading Off: Iowa State hosts No. 27 Nebraska to open the 2024 season. Friday's meet marks the start of a new era for the Iowa State gymnastics program, as Head Coach Ashley Miles Greig will look to turn the Cyclones around following a down season. ISU adds six newcomers and returns 13 gymnasts to the 2024 roster.
Iowa State will look to turn the tides against Nebraska as they trail in the all-time series. The two sides last faced off in 2022 resulting in a close loss for the Cyclones 194.350-194.425.
Storylines:
- Head Coach Ashley Miles Greig will be making her coaching debut against Nebraska and is the 8th head gymnastics coach in Iowa State history. Assistant Coach Ryan Snider will also make his ISU debut.
- Miles Greig brings in a phenomenal college resume as she was able to win 20 individual postseason titles during her collegiate career.
- Iowa State brings in six freshmen to pair with 13 returners.
- Hannah Loyim looks to pick up where she left off last season after she ended the year with two 9.900 scores.
- The Cyclones have two returning fifth year seniors in Laura Cooke and Loganne Basuel. They will be looked upon to provide veteran leadership amongst the team.

- Iowa State enters the season unranked after finishing last year in 44th and will look to regain their national prominence.
- Last season, ISU posted its highest score of 196.300 on February 24 against Denver.
- Kaia Parker, Josie Bergstrom and Emilie Hong were leaders on vault for Iowa State last season, with NQS' of 9.850, 9.830 and 9.825 respectively.
- Iowa State boasts one of the more diverse rosters in the nation with gymnasts hailing from five different countries.
Switching Sides:
- Head Coach Heather Brink is entering her 6th year at the helm of Nebraska and holds a record of 48-60.
- The Cornhuskers open the season picked 9th in the Big while also having two gymnasts on the Big 10 watch list in Csenge Bácskay and Emma Spence.
- Nebraska opens the season ranked 27th making them one of nine Big 10 teams to be ranked.
- The Big Red finished the 2023 season in the second round of the NCAA Regionals, scoring a 195.525. Nebraska also finished sixth at the 2023 Big Ten Championships with a total score of 196.275.
- Brink brought in five newcomers to pair with the 17 returning gymnasts.
