2 – Pam McCune brought in her second 10-block match of the season at K-State. McCune had the first 10-block match by a Cyclone in five years vs. Illinois.
2 – Christy Johnson-Lynch is now two Big 12 wins away from holding the third most in conference history outright.
4 – Brooke Stonestreet totals four Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week career honors, becoming the fifth in program history to earn at least four. ISU holds 65, over double the amount of the next-highest total (31 by Texas and Baylor).
10 – Stonestreet moved herself into the all-time program top 10 now holding 1,322 career digs, just 16 from tying No. 9.
20 – The 2024 season marks Johnson-Lynch's 20th season leading Iowa State.
The 2024 Cyclones
Rachel Van Gorp picked up Big 12 Rookie of the Week, her first Big 12 honor. The freshman had 20 digs to lead the match at No. 9 Kansas and followed that with 17 against K-State. Van Gorp also totaled 71 receptions with just two errors (.972 percent), hit nine kills and had an ace and an assist.
Iowa State dropped the matches to No. 9 Kansas and Kansas State last week while battling through injuries. ISU took a set at Kansas and fell in five hosting KSU. In the fifth set, nine match points were seen. Maya Duckworth had six kills on eight swings in the fifth set, totaling an errorless nine at a career-high hitting percentage of .500.
Faith DeRonde led the Cyclones with 28 kills through the matches against No. 9 KU and KSU. Lilly Wachholz had 25 kills last week at an efficient .420 percent. Against Kansas State, Wachholz had 17 at a season-high .484. Brooke Stonestreet led the team and Big 12 with 5.33 digs per set while totaling 48. The next-highest average in the conference was 4.86.
Johnson-Lynch continues her 20th season leading Iowa State, a program she has transformed. Johnson-Lynch holds 379 career victories (.644 winning percentage), with 206 of those being Big 12 wins to rank fourth in all-time conference history. Iowa State totals 10 20-win seasons under Johnson-Lynch, including the past two seasons.
The Opponents
No. 17 Baylor is led by Elise McGhee with 235 kills on the season at 3.41 per set. Alicia Andrew has totaled 52 blocks while hitting 111 kills at a percentage of .399. The percentage ranks 22nd in the nation and fourth in the Big 12. Baylor has three ranked wins on the season (No. 14 Arizona State, No. 18 TCU, No. 18 Minnesota) and took No. 6 Wisconsin to five sets.
Melanie Parra has been unstoppable averaging 5.25 kills per set, ranking second in the nation and No. 1 in the Big 12. Parra also leads the conference in aces per set, attacks per set, points, points per set, attacks and kills). TCU also has three ranked wins on the season (No. 14 Baylor, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 23 BYU) and took a set from No. 2 Nebraska and No. 6 Wisconsin to five sets.
