URBANDALE, Iowa – Anna Supapitch Kuearum earned a straight-set, 6-3, 6-1, win against No. 85 Daianne Hayashida but Iowa State was unable to overcome being shorthanded as it fell to Iowa, 5-2, Friday evening at Life Time Fitness.
Iowa State (2-4) was forced to play down from the beginning with only five players available for action due to an injury to Juliette Nask. After Iowa won the doubles point, it was quickly ahead 2-0 heading into singles as the Hawkeyes claimed another point with a forfeit at No. 6 singles.
Kuearum earned her first ranked win of the season in impressive fashion to draw the Cyclones back to within, 2-1. But Iowa got wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to secure their first win over ISU since 2019.
The Cyclones lone other victory on the day came from the freshman San Martin. She was able to win a hard-fought match against Mehra, 7-6 (9), 3-6, 1-0 (8), on court five.
In doubles action, the teams split at one and two doubles but the Hawkeyes (4-5) claimed the point due to forfeit at No. 3.
Kuearum and Dunlap rallied from a 3-1 deficit on court one to defeat the Hawkeye tandem of Jessica Matthews and Vipasha Mehra, 6-4. At No. 2, the freshman pairing of Ashlee Narker and Valeska San Martin took an early 3-2 lead on Barbora Pokorna and Pia Kranholdt, but ended up falling 7-5.
