Track and Field Heads to Trio of Meets

AMES, Iowa – The Cyclones continue indoor season as the squad splits up for three meets Feb. 9-10. Iowa State will compete at the Tyson Invite in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington and the Valentine Invite in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Iowa State men moved up two spots in the USTFCCCA national poll to No. 20 following big performances at the Iowa State Classic. The men's 800m squad also made a move, from No. 2 to No. 1 in the national event rankings with the crew of Darius Kipyego, Finley Mclear, Jason Gómez and Tyler Carreon averaging 1:47.56. Kipyego's time of 1:46.71 currently ranks second in the nation while Mclear's 1:46.08 ranks eighth and Gómez' 1:47.56 at 13th. Kipyego's all-time PR moved him up to No. 3 in ISU history while Mclear's ISU PR put him at No. 5.

Said Mechaal downed the mile school record set at last season's Iowa State Classic as he went sub-4 with 3:57.29. Iowa State now totals four school records that have fallen this season; the women's 1,000m (Makayla Clark), men's 1,000m (Darius Kipyego) and women's weight throw (Kaitlyn Burson) in addition to the men's mile.

The final week of indoor regular season is next week, with the Iowa Open and Arkansas Qualifier Feb. 16.
