Cyclones Complete Day One of Big 12 Championship

TRINITY, Texas - The Iowa State men's golf team teed off at the Big 12 Championship this morning to play 36-holes. The Cyclones sit in 11th place with a score of 590 after improving their first round score by eight strokes in the second.Â
No. 41 BYU is in first place leading No. 17 Texas by one stroke. Individually, Peter Kim from No. 41 BYU and Ty Gingerich from Cincinnati are tied for the lead after shooting five-under par through the first two rounds.Â
Lukas Pany is leading the Cyclones after carding a 144 on the day. Pany was able to improve his score from round one by two strokes to shoot one-under-par and end in a three-way tie for ninth. Paul Beauvy tied for 20th after shooting a second round 70, six strokes better than his first round score.Â
Luke Gutschewski is tied for 44th with a score of 150. Gutschewski had an eagle and two birdies in the span of four holes in the first round. Freshman Owen Sawyer trails Gutschewski by one stroke after carding 10 birdies in the first 36 holes. Sawyer carded three birdies in a row on holes 10 through 12. Zach May improved his score by two strokes in the second round with six birdies, three in each round. May carded three birdies in a row on holes one through three to end the day in a tie for 62nd.Â
The Cyclones will begin teeing off for the third round at 8:20am (CST) on Tuesday, April 23 followed by the fourth and final round on Wednesday, April 24.Â
