FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Cam Jones and Sanele Masondo punched their tickets to nationals while seven throughout the 110m hurdles, 1,500m and 800m qualified for Friday's quarterfinals as men began competition at NCAA West Prelims.
Jones is headed to NCAA Championships after cementing his spot in the shot put with 61-1 1/4 (19.84m), hitting the mark on his first attempt. Jones finished 11th overall through the three rounds. The three-time All-American is the 10th in ISU men's history to advance to outdoor nationals in the event.

Masondo ended running events finishing in the top 12 to advance to Eugene. The first-year Cyclone clocked 28:43.19 for ninth to qualify for his first NCAA Championships. Masondo sat in 14th up until the 6,000 meter mark where he worked his way up to ninth. The field included 17 of the top-20 ranked men in the NCAA entering the race.

Redshirt-freshman Jack Latham kicked off action for the Cyclones qualifying for the quarterfinal of 110m hurdles, going out to a blazing time of 13.74. The wind-legal time ties the third-fastest performance in Iowa State history. After coming into the meet as the No. 39 seed, Latham finished 23rd overall to qualify with his time.
The 1,500ers kept it rolling with three automatically qualifying for Friday's quarterfinals. Ezekiel Rop finished third overall with 3:40.38, finishing alongside Washington's Joe Waskom in the final first round heat. Peter Smith booked his spot in quarterfinals as he finished second in his heat with 3:41.41, and freshman Devan Kipyego finished fourth in the fourth heat with 3:43.09.
The 800m also saw strong performances as all three Cyclones entered advanced onto quarterfinals. Finley Mclear won the final heat and posted the second-fastest first round time with 1:47.57. Tyler Carreon, entering as the No. 32 seed, auto qualified crossing the finish line second in his heat and 11th overall with a new personal best of 1:48.18. Darius Kipyego won his heat with 1:48.28 to also move on.
In the hammer throw, Zach Verzani threw a best mark of 204-4 (62.28m) to place 28th.
Alec Carr ends a dominant sophomore campaign finishing 29th in 400m hurdles with 52.00, five spots short of moving on. Carr improved on his seeding as he entered regionals as the No. 39 seed. Mikey McClain also finalized his season with 21.06 in the 200m.
NCAA West Prelims continue tomorrow with women beginning action. Due to projected severe weather, field and running events for Thursday have been moved up three hours. Events for Iowa State beginning at 3 p.m. include the long jump, 1,500m, 400m, 800m and 10,000m.
