LANCASTER, Pa. – Iowa State rising sophomore Keeley Marx opened play Thursday during the first round of the 79th US Open at the Lancaster Country Club.
Marx shot a 76 in the opening round, as she sits in a tie for 96th. One of 22 amateurs in the field, Marx ranks fourth among the amateurs.
She bogeyed the opening hole of the day before during in three-straight pars. After three bogeys in a four-hole stretch, Marx had four-straight pars before her first birdie of the day on the par five 13th hole. Marx had a bogey on four of her final five holes, but also had a birdie on the par three 17th hole. Her tee shot landed 20 inches from the hole.
Marx will tee off at 1:42 p.m. (CT) on Friday in the second round. She is the final group to tee off and will start on the back nine. The top 60 players and ties will make the cut for the weekend.
