LAKE ELMO, Minn. - The Cyclones sit alone in third place, shooting a 282 in the opening round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Iowa State finished the day with three players landing in the top 20 after round one.Â
Junior Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn led the Cyclones, finishing tied for second and shooting a 67 in the first round. Chul-Ak-Sorn found the red numbers four times on the front nine, shooting a 33, while on the back nine, she ended her round off with the eighth eagle of her career. She shot a 34 on the back nine to conclude the round at five-under par.Â
Freshman Nichakorn Pinprayoon started her career off hot, finishing her first round with five birdies and a two-under par round, putting her in a comfortable tie for 13th heading into her second round as a Cyclone. Not far behind her was Pammy Chookaew shooting an even par round, putting her in a tie for 19th heading into round two.
Another Iowa State freshman got into the mix early as Alexandra Vidal started off hot shooting a two-under par front nine before finishing her round at one-over par in a tie for 23rd. Sophomore Keeley Marx shot a 77 in the opening round and is tied for 49th.Â
The field features seven teams ranked in the Top 20 in the nation. Wake Forest and South Carolina, both ranked in the top seven, are tied at the top of the leaderboard with a 276.
Iowa State will tee off at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday in the second round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.Â
