CARLSBAD, Calif. - The Iowa State women's golf team finished in a tie for 22nd Sunday at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship. It was the highest NCAA Championship finish in school history, surpassing the 2014 team's 23rd place finish.Â
In the final round, the Cyclonitas shot a 296, their second-best round of the tournament, to remain in 22nd place. Iowa State entered the championship ranked No. 29 in the country and the No. 23 seed in the championship. Overall, the 896 that Iowa State shot over three rounds was the eighth-best 54-hole score at an NCAA event in school history.Â
Junior Pammy Chookaew led the Cyclones on the final day, as she moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard to finish in 55th. Chookaew's finish was the third-best at the NCAA Championships in school history. She was two-strokes away from making a playoff to advance to the final round on Monday. Chookaew was three-over par after the front nine, but had two birdies and seven pars on the back nine to finish one-over par. She finished with a six-over par 222. After an opening round 77, Chookaew fired rounds of 72 and 73 to finish the tournament.Â
Sophomore Keeley Marx shot a 74 for the second-straight day, as she moved up four spots to finish in 63rd place. Her finish was the fourth-best at an NCAA Championship in school history. Marx had a pair of birdies on the back nine, as she finished with a seven-over par 223 for the championship.Â
Junior Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn had her best round of the championship, as she shot a 74 in the final round and moved up 16 spots on the leaderboard. After an opening round 78, she had rounds of 75 and 74 to close the championship at 11-over par with a 227. Chul-Ak-Sorn was four-over on the front nine, but had three birdies on the back nine to finish at two-over for the day to finish in 101st place.
Freshman Alexandra Vidal moved up 13 spots in the final round with her 75 on Sunday. It was her best round of the championship. Vidal had a birdie on the front nine and added two more on the back nine. She shot a 15-over par 231 for the championship, as she finished in 124th.Â
Freshman Nichakorn Pinprayoon shot an 81 in the final round, as she finished in 132nd with a 232. Pinprayoon had a birdie on the par five sixth hole on Sunday.Â
The Top 15 teams advanced to the final round of stroke play on Monday, as well as the next nine individuals on non-advancing teams. No. 1 Stanford has a 15-stroke lead going into the final round, while Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin has a one-stroke lead going into the final round of stroke play.Â
