DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa State senior Pammy Chookaew led after all three rounds this week, as she claimed victory at the 101st Iowa Women's Amateur. Three Cyclones finished in the top four, dominating the field at Wakonda Golf Club.
Chookaew won the tournament in a playoff, where she competed against Cyclone teammate Keeley Marx. Chookaew entered the day with a three-stroke lead, but an impressive performance by Marx forced a playoff. Marx had taken the lead on the back nine, but Chookaew moved back into a tie with Marx after the 17th hole to force the playoff.Â
In addition to Chookaew and Marx going to a playoff for the title, Cyclone sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon finished in fourth place. In nine total rounds for the Cyclone trio, they finished at or below par in seven of them. Chookaew (69-70-71) and Marx (73-69-68) each shot a 210, while Pinprayoon (72-74-69) shot a 215. This was the second-straight year Marx has finished as the runner-up in the Iowa Women's Amateur.Â
With the victory, Chookaew has earned an automatic berth in the 2026 US Women's Amateur, set for Aug. 3-9, 2026 in Ooltewah, Tenn. Chookaew just missed out on qualifying for the 2025 US Women's Amateur and was an alternate for the tournament currently being played in Bandon, Ore.
