Brian Biekert is in his first season back at Iowa State as an assistant coach. A member of Martin Smith’s 2014-15 Iowa State squad, Biekert comes to Ames after two seasons as an assistant coach at Brown.
During his tenure in Providence, Rhode Island, Biekert worked with the middle and distance runners. In 2018, his indoor men’s distance medley relay team qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships and earned Second Team All-America honors with a ninth place finish in College Station. The Bears’ DMR also won the silver medal at the Ivy League Championships.
Biekert’s time as a Cyclone came after he graduated from Central Connecticut State. As a Cyclone, Biekert anchored ISU’s distance medley relay squad which finished third and earned First Team All-America honors at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships. Biekert qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries during the outdoor in the 1,500-meter run, clocking a PR 3:44.35 during the season in which he also finished third in the event at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Biekert graduated from Central Connecticut State in 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science. As a Blue Devil student-athlete, Biekert won three Northeast Conference titles and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
