Completed Event: Track and Field at 44 Farms Team Invite on April 11, 2025 ,

Fletcher Brooks will be entering his eighth season at Iowa State in 2020-21 as the associate head coach of the track and field/cross country programs. Brooks is the coach of the Cyclones’ throwers and jumpers.
Iowa State student-athletes under Brooks’ guidance have continued to see sustained success under Brooks’ watch. The feature star of that group was Jhoanmy Luque, who earned 12 All-America honors, six Big 12 titles, a school record and a Venezuelan national record under his supervision.
The latest success story came in 2019 via thrower Vlad Pavlenko. Starting his ISU career as a walk-on, Pavlenko worked his way to a pair of Second Team All-America honors in 2019, two school records (men’s indoor weight throw and men’s outdoor hammer throw) and two Big 12 Championships silver medals.
2017 also saw Brooks’ student-athlete success expand to the high jump area, where Jalen Ford earned First Team All-America honors with his sixth-place finish in the men’s high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In the women’s long jump, Allanah McCorkle earned Second Team All-America honors with her 13th place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Brooks was the man behind the success of Christina Hillman, helping guide her to two NCAA shot put titles, three Big 12 championships and seven All-America honors. Hillman’s final time wearing the Cardinal and Gold of ISU saw her finish ninth at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in the shot put.
Along with Hillman, 2016 saw the careers of two Brooks greats, Jan Jeuschede and Taylor Sanderson. Jeuschede was a three-time All-American and a 2016 Big 12 outdoor champion in the shot put, while Sanderson claimed the 2016 Big 12 Decathlon crown and a pair of All-America honors while competeing for Brooks.
The 2015 outdoor season saw five Brooks disciples earn All-America honors. Christina Hillman was once again a first-team All-American in the shot put, while Jan Jeuschede also repeated as an outdoor All-American in the shot put. For the second year in a row, Brooks coached a women’s high jumper to All-America honors in Marine Vallet after Kelly McCoy was an All-American in 2014. Closing out his All-America group was decathlete Taylor Sanderson, the junior who earned his first career All-America honor and the third All-American Cyclone decathlete in program history.
Brooks’ first season at Iowa State was highlighted by Hillman’s sweep of the indoor and outdoor national titles in the women’s shot put, the first national championships in throwing events for the Iowa State women all-time.
Over his career, Brooks has coached 106 All-Americans and 14 NCAA Champions, including star-pupil Tanasia Hoffler. Hoffler was a repeat NCAA Division III champion in the triple jump at Williams.
Brooks previously coached under Martin Smith at Oklahoma during the 2013 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Prior to Oklahoma, Brooks served four years as the head men’s and women’s track & field coach at Williams College in Massachusetts. While at the helm, Brooks collected numerous coaching honors, earning back-to-back NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Track Coach of the Year honors (2009, 2010), the 2010 USTFCCA New England Region Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Coach of the Year and the same recognition in 2012 as the Women’s Outdoor Track Coach of the Year.
Before Williams, Brooks served as the head coach at MIT, leading the Engineers to the top of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). During his tenure, the Engineers captured the NEWMAC title in 2007, finished third in the 2008 indoor season and second in the 2007 outdoor season, both of which are top finishes in program history. Brooks also coached the Engineers' 2006 men's indoor and outdoor NCAA champion in the shot put.
Before assuming the role of head coach at MIT, Brooks spent seven years at Williams (1998-2005) as the Ephs' strength and conditioning coach, developing productive strength and conditioning programs.
Brooks graduated from Allegheny College in 1993 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and minored in women’s studies. Brooks was also an All-American in the shot put and lettered on the football team, which won the Division III National Championship in 1990.
