Completed Event: Women's Golf versus Wolverine Invitational on September 7, 2025 , , 3rd/15

Sarah Butler, who is in her fifth season as an assistant coach at Iowa State, has been influential in maintaining Iowa State women’s golf as one of the top programs nationally.
In her first year with the Cyclones (2015-16), Butler helped ISU achieve a No. 25 national ranking by Golfweek, as ISU earned its seventh-straight NCAA Regional berth.
Two Cyclones – Chayanit Wangmahaporn and Celia Barquin Arozamena – were named First Team All-Big 12 and ranked in the nation’s top-115 at season’s end.
Iowa State placed second at the 2017 Big 12 Championship to record its highest finish in Big 12 history. A pair of Cyclones earned all-tournament honors – Wangmahaporn and Barquin Arozamena – and Wangmahaporn was voted First-Team All-Big 12 for the second-straight season.
Barquin Arozamena became the second Cyclone in school history to win a conference championship, claiming the 2018 Big 12 title. Both Barquin Arozamena and Wangmahaporn were named to the All-Big 12 Team for the third time, the only two Cyclones in school history to accomplish this feat.
Under Butler’s coaching, Wangmahaporn broke the school’s single-season stroke average mark (72.90) in 2016-17 and Barquin Arozamena ended her career with a school-record scoring mark of 73.44. Wangmahaporn is second at 73.59.
In all, the Cyclones have appeared in four NCAA Regionals and had a pair of All-Big 12 performers in Butler’s first four seasons on staff.
Before arriving in Ames, Butler helped mentor a pair of golfers (Maggie Simmermacher and Katerina Vlasinova) who were named All-C-USA in her lone season (2014-15) as an assistant at Old Dominion. Simmermacher was also named C-USA Freshman of the Year.
A native of Roseau, Minn., Butler was an assistant coach at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minn., for one season and was a tournament director for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) for two years prior to her stint at ODU.
Butler was a touring professional from 2007-10 before beginning her coaching career. She competed in the 2009 CN Canadian Women’s Open on the LPGA Tour and posted numerous top-10 finishes on the CN Canadian Women’s Tour.
A four-year letterwinner at Minnesota, Butler was named co-captain for the Gophers in her junior and senior seasons. She won the Minnesota Invitational and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2005.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies at Minnesota in 2006.
