AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State 800 freestyle relay team of sophomore Lauren Breunig, senior Jenny Lindberg, junior Tami Ritchie and sophomore Chelsey Walden took fifth place with a time of 7:32.34 on Wednesday as the first day of action wrapped up at the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas.
The 200 medley relay team of junior Maggie Peterson, freshman Krista Fehl, senior Brita Benson and senior Jenny Lindberg was disqualified in the first event of the meet.
The Cyclones collected 28 team points with the fifth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay and are currently in sixth place. Texas leads the field with 80 points.
Day two of the Big 12 Championships will begin at 10 a.m. with the 500 freestyle. Other events that take place tomorrow include the 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and women's 3-meter diving. Event finals begin at 6 p.m.
