AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving team finished in sixth place with 223 points after day three of competition at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo. The competition will conclude Saturday evening with finals beginning at 5 p.m. with the platform diving competition.
Senior Kim Rogers placed fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.45. Rogers improved her previous season-best time by nearly 10 seconds. Fellow senior Lydia Smirniotis followed in 18th place (4:32.59).
Tami Ritchie, senior, touched the wall in 14th place with a time of 57.42 in the 100 fly.
Junior Lauren Breunig and Chelsey Walden placed well in the 200 free. Breunig had an impressive swim to place second in the event with a time of 1:48.22 and Walden followed in 15th place (1:52.89).
In the 100 breast event freshman Marni Benson took ninth place with a time of 1:04.12 while sophomore Krista Fehl placed 10th (1:04.60).
Senior Maggie Peterson placed 10th in the 100 back with a time of 56.15. Freshman Lindsay Wegner touched the wall in 12th place (57.96), junior Cassandra Nelson finished in 13th place (58.11) and senior Jamie Wieben followed in 14th place with a time of 58.22.
The 200 free relay team of Breunig, Nelson, Wieben and Peterson placed fourth with a time of 1:34.54.
Freshman Haley Haynes finished in 11th place with 233.20 points on the 3-meter while sophomore Kali Fryklund finished in 19th with 200.50 points.
