COLUMBIA, Mo. ? Iowa State fell to Missouri, 184-103, in the Cyclones' Big 12 conference opener Saturday in Columbia, Mo. The Cyclones duals record now stands at 5-2 after the defeat at the hands of the No. 24 Tigers.
Iowa State was led by senior Lauren Breunig who touched the wall first in all three of her events on the night. The Mazomanie, Wis., native took first place in the 200 free, 100 free and the 200 IM. The three wins bring her total to 17 first-place finishes on the year.
The swimmers also received strong performances from Chelsey Walden and Maddie Crawford in the 1000 free. Walden, a senior from Madison, Wis., gave a lifetime best effort with a time of 10:15.96. The performance was good enough for second, just a tenth of a second behind the leader. Crawford swam a season best in the event and ended up in fourth.
“Our women who trained well over break all had good meets and this meet really set us up for a successful Big 12 meet,” commented head coach Duane Sorenson.
On the boards, sophomore Haley Haynes qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the 1-meter with a first place score of 275.40.
Alongside Haynes, freshman Tien Tran (246.15) and sophomore Kali Fryklund (214.20) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1-meter diving event. Tran (245.33) and Fryklund (232.27) also competed in the 3-meter event for the Cyclones. Tran finished second while Fryklund came in fourth.
