AMES, Iowa ? Coming off a close loss to Nebraska in the Cyclones' last home meet of the season, Iowa State will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Kansas Jayhawks for back-to-back dual meets on January 26-27. The Cyclones (5-3, 0-2) will be looking to snap a string of three consecutive losses after a 5-0 start in their final dual meet before the Big 12 Championships.
Under the direction of fifth year head coach Clark Campbell, Kansas (5-1, 1-1) is coming off a close victory over Big 12 Conference foe Nebraska. The dual meet will be Kansas' final meet in Robinson Natatorium this year and will mark Senior Day as the Jayhawks honor seven seniors.
Iowa State will look to senior Lauren Breunig to lead the way. Breunig, a native of Mazomanie, Wis., has captured nine consecutive individual titles in her last three meets, dating back to the Cyclones' dual meet against Iowa on December 8. She touched the wall first in the 100 free, 200 free and 200 IM against Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska.
Freshman Tien Tran and sophomores Kali Fryklund and Haley Haynes will carry the load for the Cyclones' diving team. Tran took second place on the 3-meter and third on the 1-meter against Nebraska and has recorded eight first place finishes on the year. Fryklund also competed in the 3-meter and 1-meter event for Iowa State against the Cornhuskers and finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Haynes, although battling injury, has consistently been at the top of the leaderboard in the 1-meter diving event. Haynes finished fourth with a point total of 229.35 against Nebraska.
Friday's events are set to begin at 6 p.m., with Saturday's competition scheduled for a 10 a.m. start. Results will be available on Cyclones.com following the conclusion of each day.
