Iowa State Continues Hot Start, Wins Central District Invite

PARRISH, Fla. - The 16th-ranked Iowa State women's golf team rallied with a tournament-low 283 (5 under) this afternoon to claim the team title at the 15-team Central District Invitational.

The Cyclones, who were in third place heading into the final round, used a pair of 69s this afternoon from Laurence Herman and Sasikarn On-iam to win their second tournament of the 2010-11 season (Challenge at Onion Creek). Iowa State has finished first, second and first in its last three tournaments, including a runner-up finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic last week.

The Cyclones once again had a balanced effort to win the strong field which included 10 teams ranked in the top-50 according to Golfstat. All five Cyclones placed in the top-25 individually to help Iowa State card a three-round 868 tally, nine shots better than second-place and No. 4-ranked LSU (877). It is the second-best 54-hole score in Cyclone history.

Herman, a senior from Kortrijk, Belgium, led the Cyclones by tying for third place with a 216 total (76-71-69). It was Herman's 11th top-10 finish of her career. Two other Cyclones recorded top-10 finishes in Punpaka Phuntumabamrung and Victoria Stefansen, tying for seventh at 218. Stefansen notched her 12th career top-10 performance, while Phuntumabamrung posted her fourth top-10 showing of the season.

Iowa State is back in action at the Sun Trust Gator Invitational, March 6-7 in Gainesville, Fla.
