Golfers Capture Third Tournament Title At MountainView

TUCSON, Ariz. - The 14th-ranked Iowa State women's golf team won the 16-team MountainView Collegiate Tournament Saturday afternoon in Tucson, Ariz. The Cyclones posted a team score of 857, shattering Iowa State's 54-hole school record by 10 shots and outdistancing second-place and No. 24 Oklahoma by six strokes to claim their third tournament title of the season. No. 12 Arkansas placed third at 864.
Four of the five best 54-hole scores in school history have been achieved by the 2010-11 Cyclones.
Iowa State got off to a strong start in the first two rounds on Friday, shooting a 285, the fourth lowest 18-hole score in school history, and a 284, the third lowest score in the Iowa State record book, to take a nine-shot lead (7-under) heading into the final round. Iowa State carded an even-par 288 this afternoon to round out its record-breaking score.
Freshman Prima Thammaraks was the runner-up medalist at 212, as all five Cyclones placed 22nd or better. Thammaraks fired a pair of 70s in the first two rounds and a 72 today to tie the school record for low 54-hole score and notch her second runner-up finish of the season. Thammaraks now shares the 54-hole school mark with senior Laurence Herman, who fired a 212 at the 2009 Challenge at Onion Creek.
Freshman Sasikarn On-Iam fired a 217, her lowest career 54-hole tournament score to finish in a tie for eighth. It is On-Iam's second top-10 finish of the season. Sophomore Punpaka Phuntumabamrung and senior Laurence Herman both tied for 12th at 218. Phuntumabamrung carded a career-low 68 in the first round, tying for the second-best 18-hole score in school history.
Senior Victoria Stefansen also competed for the Cyclones, placing 22nd at 220.
The Cyclones will be back in action on April 16 at the Lady Buckeye Invitational.
