RESULTS
OMAHA, Neb. – The Iowa State swimming and diving team earned first-place finishes in 11 of 13 events en route to a 154-110 victory over Nebraska-Omaha at the HPER Pool Friday evening. The Cyclones (4-2, 0-0 Big 12) took top honors in the first seven events before the Mavericks (2-8) posted a victory.
Freshman
Elizabeth Kleiner once again showed the versatility that has made her a valuable asset to the Cyclones. The Lakeville, Minn. native posted individual victories in the 1000 free (10:33.59) and the 100 fly (58.48) along with swimming the second leg of Iowa State's winning 400 free relay to close out the meet.
Amanda Paulson continued to dominate the sprint freestyle events, collecting another three victories on the evening. Paulson posted a 23.54 anchor split for the winning 200 medley relay squad and won her one individual event of the night, continuing her undefeated season in the 50 free going 23.96. The Monticello, Minn. product closed out the evening by anchoring for the winning 400 free relay squad.
Sarah Norris was a member of both winning relay teams on the night, swimming the fly leg for the 200 medley relay squad that touched the wall in 1:47.66 and closing the evening out by swimming the third leg of the 400 free relay team that won in 3:35.19.
Other individual winners among the Cyclone swimmers included
Alex Gustafson in the 200 free (1:58.63),
Kristy Kunkel in the 500 free (5:11.77),
Bre Loeschke in the 100 back (58.68) and
Imelda Wistey in the 200 IM (2:09.83).
The Cyclone divers did not see any competition from Nebraska-Omaha, but the event gave the Iowa State squad a chance to compete in front of an audience.
Sarah Nelson was first on 1-meter with a score of 246.67 with
Jessica Henderson close behind with 240.75. Henderson ran away with 3-meter, posting her second-highest score of the season with 288.83. Nelson came in second with 249.30 and
Jenn Botsch was third with 238.50.
The Cyclones are back in action tomorrow against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. CST.
